What makes a honeymoon is not the size of the hotel but how a day for two is put together. Asking these six questions before booking prevents most of the disappointments.

1. Is the property adults only?

“Adults only” properties do not accept guests below a set age; if you are after a quiet holiday, this is the deciding factor. At a property busy with families, quiet is hard to find by the pool.

2. What does the room type actually promise?

“Sea view” and “side sea view” are not the same thing. Features such as a jacuzzi, private pool, terrace or swim-up access appear in the room description, not in the room name. Which way the balcony faces decides between morning sun and sunset.

3. What do the honeymoon extras cover?

Many properties offer honeymooners room decoration, a fruit plate or late check-out. These are subject to availability, not guaranteed, and normally have to be requested in the booking note. Proof of the wedding date may be asked for.

4. Where and how is dinner served?

At an all-inclusive property the main restaurant is a buffet; à la carte restaurants usually need a reservation and are limited. If you are planning a romantic dinner, ask in advance how many à la carte visits you have and when bookings open.

5. Is quiet actually possible?

Entertainment and live music hours, how far the room is from the stage or pool, and the size of the property decide how the evening goes. A request for a room “away from the main building” often helps but is never guaranteed.

6. Is the rate flexible?

Plans after a wedding can move. If your dates are not final, a free-cancellation rate beats gambling a few nights on a non-refundable one.

Frequently asked questions

Is proof needed for honeymoon extras?

Some properties ask for a marriage certificate or the date; it is the property’s own policy.

Is room decoration free?

At some properties it is a free gesture, at others a paid extra. It is stated on the booking page.

Are adults-only properties always quieter?

Usually yes, but there are adults-only properties with entertainment and a night programme. The programme is described on the room page.
